Technical Standards: What are they, why should you care and how to get involved?
08-25, 14:30–16:00 (Asia/Kuala_Lumpur), Classroom

This session will showcase the importance of Standards Developing Organizations, how they affect Python (and the broader ecosystem), and how to participate in them.

Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) run the technological ecosystem.
While invisible for most, they are fundamental in shaping how technology is used at all layers of the stack.

Unfortunately, SDOs are not only a big unknown for the final user, they tend to also be for developers.

This workshop will allow the participants to:
- Understand what are SDOs (focusing on ITU, IETF and ICANN)
- How do SDOs impact their daily work
- Governance and outputs generated by SDOs
- How to participate and influence technical standards

The session will follow a combination of theory and practical exercises. It will also offer venues for getting involved with SDOs post-session.
Python-specific information will be part of the content.

Attendants will benefit from carrying a laptop although it won't be critical.
